Description

About Us

London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS) is at the heart of the capital’s healthcare system, providing 24/7 emergency and urgent care to over nine million people across one of the busiest and most diverse cities in the world. Each year, our 8,500 staff and volunteers respond to over two million 999 calls, handle more than 2.3 million NHS 111 calls, and provide critical care services in collaboration with London’s major hospitals.

As one of the world’s largest and busiest ambulance services, LAS plays a vital role in ensuring that Londoners receive high-quality, timely, and life-saving care. We are also a leader in integrated urgent care, working closely with NHS partners, social care providers, and emergency services to deliver innovative, patient-focused solutions.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an inspirational and forward-thinking Chief Executive to lead our dedicated and highly skilled workforce in delivering world-class urgent and emergency care across London. The successful candidate will work closely with our Board, senior leadership team, and partners across the healthcare system to ensure LAS continues to meet the evolving needs of London’s diverse communities.

The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, and performance of LAS, ensuring that the Trust delivers safe, efficient, and compassionate care while maintaining financial and operational sustainability. This is an opportunity to lead a complex, fast-paced, and high-profile organisation, driving transformation in how urgent and emergency care is delivered in one of the most demanding healthcare environments in the world.

We are looking for an experienced and visionary leader with a strong track record of executive-level leadership in a complex healthcare or public sector organisation. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in driving service transformation and operational excellence, ideally in urgent and emergency care, acute services, or integrated health systems. They will be a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of financial stewardship, performance management, and regulatory compliance within the NHS or a similarly complex organisation. With a strong commitment to staff well-being, inclusion, and organisational culture, the new Chief Executive will ensure LAS remains an employer of choice, fostering an environment where people feel supported, empowered, and inspired to provide exceptional patient care.

This role requires a visible and influential leader with the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships across the NHS, local authorities, and emergency services to drive system-wide improvements in patient care. The successful candidate will be an advocate for innovation and continuous improvement, ensuring LAS remains at the forefront of emergency and urgent care. If you have the passion, resilience, and strategic acumen to lead LAS into its next chapter, we would love to hear from you.
